Service Description: Promote the well-being of young carers and their families through social, recreational and educational programs.

Young Carers are children, youth, and youth adults who provide care for a family member due to a chronic illness, disability (physical or intellectual), mental health issue, addiction issue, or socioeconomic factor (single parent family, language barrier, etc.).

The Young Carers Initiative (YCI) - Powerhouse Project is a non-profit agency with a mission to serve caregiving children, youth, young adults and their families. Through social, recreational, and educational programs, resilience, self-esteem, and life skills are fostered.

Powerhouse Project offers a variety of FREE services and activities to empower Young Carers and their families, and give Young Carers respite from their caregiving responsibilities. Services aim to reduce isolation and caregiver fatigue, alleviate stress and anxiety, and invest peer support.

Services offered include:
  • Weekly respite programming (Carer's Night Out)
  • Life skills programming
  • special events
  • March Break Camp
  • Summer Camps
  • Teen and young adult programming
  • Youth Advisory Committees
  • Educational workshops
  • One-to-one visits
